My NBA Draft Recap

They HYPE… The ANTICIPATION… The REJOICE…
Finally, it was NBA DRAFT NIGHT!!!

Recapping last night’s NBA Draft, it was clear that the 2012 NBA Draft was made up of Anthony Davis and everyone else.  After Davis selected at #1, nothing else on the mock-draft board was 100% guaranteed.  You could see it in the player's reactions when they were picked.  Yes, emotions are a part of a life changing career move, but these boys were in total shock when their names were being called.  Imagine going somewhere and there are 30 potential suitors that want your talent.  Of course you'll be happy to just work with any one on that level, but you're just waiting for your name to be called... Welcome to the NBA Draft.

The Bobcats shocked some spectators by passing on Thomas Robinson for another feline, Kentucky Wildcat slasher, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist at #2.  True, moves may continue to be made, but hearing Coach Dunlap exclaim about the potential of Kidd-Gilchrist at the Bobcats Draft Party, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the guy they wanted all along.

To me, he has the physical make-up of so many players that come into the league, but apparently, what sets him apart is his motor.  The kid flat out finds a way… whether it’s being first to a loose ball, deflecting a pass that leads to a fast break dunk, or even knocking down a clutch jumper, Kidd-Gilchrist is built for success on the next level.  But let’s make some comparisons shall we… we shall…

Best case comparison = Gerald Wallace
Worst case comparison = Donald Royal
Most likely comparison = Corey Brewer

So noting those things, my only concern with Kidd-Gilchrist is was he #2-pick-worthy? Could the Bobcats have traded down to get some veteran talent & still get MKG at a later spot?  Where does he fit in the Bobcats current rotation?  Can he create his own shot?  Potentially a SF, will he fit in beside newly acquired Shooting Guard, Ben Gordon, or will Gerald Henderson see his minutes decrease?  Will he be a better NBA SF than say, a Harrison Barnes, or Royce White, or even his college teammate, Terrence Jones?  I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Aside from the lottery, things also got interesting in the later 1st Round when at #28, the Oklahoma City Thunder struck gold, but landing Perry Jones III from Baylor.  To me, this was the steal of the draft.  Of course Jones has some questions about where he fits and what his role may be in the NBA scheme, but what better place to just come of the bench and play basketball than alongside the likes of KD, Russell Westbrook, and presumably James Harden in OKC!? #winning

Winners: New Orleans, SAC, Golden State, & even LAL
