1999 vs. 2012 Cement IV Comparison...

Instagram pic via Twitter

As some of you know, the White/Cement Jordan IV was the first sneaker I really payed attention to... one day, a guy named Marlon Beck wore those crispy suckers into the cafeteria of Claxton Elementary School and within seconds, my new infatuation of sneakers erupted on sight!!  It was 1989, and from that point, I was on a mission to get those kicks!  Needless to say, I quickly learned how "Jordan releases" go, so by the time the next pair of Jordans were scheduled to come out, I was already plotting on how to coerced my mom into buying me the Black/Metallic Silver Vs in February 1990... SMH, thanks a lot Marlon {Alan from "Hangover" voice} haha...

My 1st Jordans: 1990 OG Black/Metallic Jordan V

In 1999, Nike retroed the classic Jordan IV, so of course I was out to score the kick that started my love from the beginning... soon after, I scuffed those beauties and some how they found their way out of my possession by way of a community yard sale... SMH...

In any case, with news that 2012 would bring the classic sneaker around at least one more time,  I was skeptical based on the early internet photos and the expected downgrade in quality, so my continual search to recover a pair of the 1999 version was turned up a notch!! I finally got my hands on a pair, still in DS and apparently wearable condition, so I was really okay with passing on this one.  But as the countdown to the drop got closer, and the online reviews looked better and better, I found myself waiting in line before the sun was even up for a pair...

After all of my whining and complaining weeks before, I'm actually glad JB decided to re-release this model for the cats that never had a chance at the OG or 1999 editions.  Even with the slight differences from the 1999 version (which I still favor), I still had to cop and in some ways, the love is renewed...

here are my comparison pics of the 1999 vs. 2012 "Cement Jordan IV", along with a review of the kicks together, courtesy of yungdrseuss via youtube.com:

Hand Down, Man Down! SMH

WOW!  This one stung a little!

But Carolina can only blame themselves for last night's loss to DOOK... The headliner of "Rilvary Week", another epic battle between nationally ranked opponents #5 Carolina and #9 Duke, became yet another instant classic.

The up-standing crowd of lawyers, physicians and future medical professionals were supportive, the refs had no illegitimate involvement in the outcome, so as it should, the game came down to which team would make enough key plays in the closing minutes...

After a close 1st half, Carolina stretched the lead and seemed to maintain control of the momentum throughout the contest.  However, Duke was able to come back from being down 12pts in the 2nd half by finishing the game with a barrage of 3pt bombs!  So in your opinion, do you think "Duke won", or "Carolina lost"?

To me, Carolina's inability to guard ANYONE, coupled with silly fouling throughout the ENTIRE 2nd half, and complicated by INEXCUSABLE team-defense in the clutch, were all precursors to how the game was set to end... oh yeah, and then there's this scouting report of Austin Rivers -and the majority of Duke's roster for that matter- that was obviously overlooked... SMH

mark your calendars for the rematch:
7pm, Saturday March 3rd
@ Duke, Cameron Indoor Stadium
